SKILLS IN PRACTICE

This skill provides a foundation to more advanced jointing methods as in this chair detail (right)

This glueless joint expresses the form of the design, the structural forces present & potential loading as well as the natural properties of the chosen wood.

The two horizontal members intersect the post & interlock establishing the rectilinear axis. Their relative thicknesses are ideal for the intended loads. The relative hardness of the ebony pegs lock the softer cedar elements in place creating an expressive & functional joint requiring no glue.
